Photo Essay: Finding Your Travel Moment

What is it that you’ve gained from travel? Did you meet your significant other or maybe you gained a new perspective on life as a result of traveling? Each trip is inherently unique and personal, offering something that the previous trip didn’t. It is for this reason that I continue to travel as frequently as I do, because each trip I take is so transformative. It’s this personal and transformative element of travel that Expedia is bringing out in their new Find Yours campaign.  During the month of July, 10 bloggers came together to share what they’ve found as a result of travel on their blog and Twitter, asking their readers to share photos of what they’ve found. Below are some of the travel photos entered into the Expedia Find Yours Twitter Photo Contest.

Wonder: From @babackpacker in the Sahara Desert (Breakaway Backpacker):

Purpose: From  @stevo120665 at Plaza Mayor in Madrid, Spain (Midlifewanderlust1965):

These are terrific photos! My travel moments are too many to list, but St. Lucia, Kruger National Park and witnessing a heavy monsoon in India all rank pretty high on the list…

Wow thanks for including my photo with this amazing collection. That photo of the Sahara Desert in Morocco is one of my favorite because before going on my Sahara tour for 4 days I was having some hard times (with travel) and was so ready to call it quits and just head home. It was after those 4 days away from everything and falling in love the Sahara that I regained my sense of WONDER and continued on this crazy adventure I am on around the world. I have found from my travels that the world is really amazing and is so much safer than any news organization will ever admit.

What an inspiring story Jaime. Have you written about that? Would love to read it if so. I was just talking to a friend last night about how travel has a habit of giving us new perspective just when we need it!

Yup I wrote An open letter to the Sahara Desert. Here is the post: http://breakawaybackpacker.com/2011/10/an-open-letter-to-the-sahara-desert/

Travel really has a way of doing things to bring everything back into perspective.

Fabulous photos! Important things I’ve discovered from my travels: a love of feta cheese from Greece, an appreciation for politeness from Canada, an amazing work ethic from Japan, long afternoons of coffee drinking from Bosnia, and of course, style from France;-)

Amazing images. I got lots of appreciation for my life at home from travelling, however it hasn’t made me want to settle – about to begin my third backpacking trip!

I love all the photos and this was a fantastic contest, and thanks for including one of mine–I feel very honored. The contest really made me think deeply about all my photos and what they represented. And it makes me want to shoot more and more when I travel. Sometimes I just don’t click often enough. Thanks again.

Love this – I may have to go and see what I come up with but Florence is WAY up on my list. So was scuba diving in Little Cayman.
